Repertoire includes original and curated instrumental/vocal music
Available in multiple configurations
-
Jesse Appelman's West Coast Stringband Project plays bluegrass that celebrates the joy of collective music-making, built on strong melodies, rich vocal harmonies, and deeply-felt groove. The repertoire features original tunes and songs alongside deep cuts from the Stanley Brothers, Hazel & Alice, John Hartford, Larry Sparks, and beyond — traditional and vernacular material handled with an individual sensibility and a spirit of collective, joyful music-making.
The band is led by mandolinist Jesse Appelman (Sam Grisman Project, Laurie Lewis & Kathy Kallick) alongside guitarist Yoseff Tucker (the Bow Ties), both singing lead and harmony. They are joined by some of the West Coast's finest fiddle, banjo, and bass players, rounding out a five-piece stringband.
The West Coast Stringband Project offers a glimpse into the future of California's vibrant roots music scene, where the borders between bluegrass, old-time, and country are less important than the guiding principle of listening deeply and making beautiful music together.
